DEPARTMENT:

Junior League

PROJECT OBJECTIVE: What was the objective of the project?

To interpret, analyse and report on the raw figures of 20 Junior League Clubs in the Parramatta Eels catchment area.

PROJECT TIMELINE: What was the project timeline?

x4 Thursdays (9am-5pm)

PROJECT EXPERIENCE: How did you collaborate as a group to complete the project?

In the beginning, we slowly worked through one Junior League Club – from start to finish – together so that we knew what was expected of us. We tried a few different methods to complete the project after that but hit a few walls. In the end, we came back together to interpret and analyse the data for each Club, but divided and conquered with the reporting.

PROFESSIONAL LEARNING: What was something that you each learnt about the sporting industry whilst completing this project?

  • There needs to be more focus on the grass roots level sport to keep the NRL professional, at a high quality and sustainable in the future.

  • Junior League clubs need financial support and stability to be able to sustain themselves.

  • Quality admin, bookkeeping and transparency is so important for keeping a Junior League club sustainable and professional.

PERSONAL LEARNING: What was something that you each learnt about yourself / your career goals whilst completing this project?

  • Riley – I learned that I enjoy working with a team and collaborating with people to complete something that requires different skillsets to complete. In terms of career goals, I was not aware of the opportunities within Junior Leagues; completing this project has made me more motivated to keep building my network in Junior League and completing projects within this department.

  • Josh – I learnt how important teamwork is, especially when working on a real-life, complex project lik what we just completed. Having people to rely on really assisted me with getting through this project. Regarding career goals, the sheer joy that I felt after finally finishing this task and knowing how much I contributed is almost unmatched... I’m so excited for my next opportunities!

  • Cody - I learnt about the importance of having a well-run, Junior League club with proper presentation of financial documents that can be easily comprehended. Regarding future, career goals, this has taught me that resilience is very important; you need to try your best and contribute to the task in one way or another.
